MINJUD reaffirms its commitment to sport as a social phenomenon

Africa-Press – Angola. The Secretary of State for Sports, Teresa Ulundo Oliveira, reaffirmed this Saturday in Mbanza Kongo, province of Zaire, that sport, as a social phenomenon, plays a fundamental role within the population, by contributing to a better life health and conviviality among individuals from different social strata.

“Sport also helps to improve well-being and stimulates massification and the development of society”, he emphasized.

According to the minister, who was speaking at the closing act of the 9th edition of the intensive course for community sports leaders and monitors in the region, the Nation expects an active contribution from youth in all segments of society.

It ensured the focus on promoting the practice of sports at national level, whose materialization involves investing in the training of sports technicians.

He recalled that the training actions carried out by his ministry, since 2017, have already covered nine provinces in the country, now counting on Zaire, through the National Directorate of Sports (DND).

Previous intensive courses took place in Cabinda, Luanda, Cuanza Norte, Benguela, Bié, Lunda Sul, Huíla and Cuando Cubango, covering 8,068 monitors and sports leaders.

He said, on the other hand, that MUNJUD is working on short, medium and long term programmes, in order to meet the lack of material and sports equipment and create other minimum conditions for the widespread practice of sport in the country.

According to the Secretary of State for Sports, the conditions have been created for the massification of sport in Zaire, with the training now provided.

He also reaffirmed the commitment to continue to work and develop programs to promote the training of young people of school age and teachers, with a view to promoting and generalizing sport at national level.

On the occasion, Teresa João Oliveira delivered a batch of sports material to the government of Zaire, consisting of soccer balls, basketballs, chess tables, among other equipment.

The 9th edition of the intensive training course for sports leaders and monitors, which lasted seven days, was attended by 101 sports agents from the municipalities of Mbanza Kongo, Soyo and Nóqui.

New graduates will have the mission of disseminating the knowledge acquired in their areas of jurisdiction.

In turn, Zaire’s deputy governor for the political, social and economic sector, Afonso Nzolameso, asked for joint work between the sports and education sectors in the region, with a view to boosting school sports.

In his speech, representing the provincial governor, Adriano Mendes de Carvalho, the official suggested holding school championships at communal, municipal and provincial level, above all in traditional sports such as Football, Basketball and Handball.

Afonso Nzolameso said that there is a desire among local teenagers and young people to practice various sports in the region.

To this end, he appealed to Municipal Administrations to define land or lots for the construction of sports infrastructures.
