Africa-Press – Angola. The head of the Electoral Observation Mission of the Community of Portuguese-Speaking Countries (EOM of the CPLP) to the General Elections, the former President of the Republic of Cape Verde, Carlos Fonseca, expressed confidence in the holding of the elections, in the context of an environment normal, accentuated by a political, democratic and exciting dispute.

Carlos Fonseca, who provided information to the press at the end of a meeting with the president of the National Assembly, Fernando da Piedade Dias dos Santos, said that the general environment in the country is an indicator that the election will take place peacefully and orderly.

“I have been in Angola for a few days and, from what I have observed, the atmosphere, in general, is one of enthusiasm, celebration, dispute and democratic competition”, he said. José Carlos Fonseca said that the mission attended some rallies and held meetings with various competing political forces and with the National Electoral Commission (CNE).

“All these elements provide data to format, from now until the end, a judgment on the electoral process, very important for Angola, taking into account the path of consolidation of Democracy and improvement of the Rule of Law”, emphasized the politician. Carlos Fonseca stated that the CPLP Electoral Observation Mission wants to contribute in a way that is consistent with the limits of the competences of electoral observation missions and, also, with the limits imposed by the nature of the organization so that the process takes place with tranquility, normality and that the results represent the will of the people.
