Africa-Press – Angola. The mixed football team from the province of Huambo will compete, next Friday (2/6), in Luanda, for the Angola Super Cup, with their eyes turned to winning the 5th trophy of the competition.
To this end, the coach of the current national champion of the modality, Hélder Gomes, who was speaking this Tuesday, before heading to the country’s capital, said that the team prepared in “detail” the duel against 3 December from Moxico, holder of the trophy.
Hélder Gomes, assistant coach of the National Team, said he was confident in the ability of his athletes to play a good game against the team of his superior, Augusto Baptista Sacumula “Chetu”.
“After eight days of sequential training, the team is prepared and motivated, from a technical, tactical and psychological point of view, to achieve a good result and recover the title from the opponent”, he stressed.
Without announcing the squad, he said he had worked with 13 players, with whom he could form the team for the Angola Super Cup, with Neymar, Dai and Sany standing out, who are part of the mix for the first time.
Celestino Elias may miss the competition
The athlete Celestino Elias, best player at the 2018 World Cup, in Mexico, and the 2020 African Cup, the latter played in the Angolan province of Benguela, runs the risk of not playing, becoming a major absence of the competition instituted six years ago.
The player deliberately did not participate in training, a situation that could condition his integration into the Central Plateau team.
According to the coach, he was contacted several times personally and through his parents, in order to attend training, but he only promised to participate.
Despite this attitude, which he considers to be negative, he mentioned that Celestino Elias will join the caravan, to transmit his experience to the collective.
New talents are part of the Under 15 selection project
In addition to the members of Misto do Huambo, Helder Gomes Gomes will take four teenagers, under 15 years of age, to rehearsals for the projects to set up the national under-15 football team using crutches.
These are Manuel da Costa from Academia do Santo António, João António Dias (Princess Diana Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Centre), Francisco Sakupalica, Justino Manguilinha, without a team.
The project, an initiative of the Angolan Paralympic Committee (CPA), aims to promote the sport at lower levels, with the aim of training future athletes for the main team.
Manuel Costa, one of those who will join the project, was satisfied with the indication, referring that the measure will allow him to achieve his goal of establishing himself in the sport, playing and winning a world cup.
