Africa-Press – Angola. The financial resources for the execution until the end of all public projects included in the Integrated Plan for Intervention in Municipalities (PIIM), referring to 2022, are available, said yesterday in Luanda, the national director of Public Investments of the Ministry of Finance. .
Juciene Cristiano was speaking at the end of the meeting of the Interministerial Commission for the Implementation of the PIIM and explained that, currently, 1,932 projects are in progress, with a financial execution in the order of 380 billion kwanzas since the beginning of its execution.
At the meeting led by the Minister of State for Economic Coordination, Manuel Nunes JĂșnior, the director underlined that, to date, 852 projects are already in the conclusive phase with a financial execution above 70 percent (331 projects already completed).
He informed that the PIIM is a financially protected program and, therefore, since the beginning of its execution, strategies were created that aim at greater financial control to avoid embezzlement of money or exceeding the sources of funding available for each project.
According to Juciene Cristiano, special attention was given to the province of Cuando Cu-bango for the beginning of the financial and physical execution of the stalled projects, taking into account the works of conformation of its portfolio.
“In this context, the PIIM portfolio was reanalyzed at the provincial level, which focused on quadrants, the first being the analysis of projects that would not undergo changes – but that could be restarted as soon as possible. The second point it has to do with the renegotiation of some contracts established, in order to change the focus of some projects in order to reduce costs”, he said.
The third quadrant, Juciene Cristiano continued, focused on the contractual termination of projects that the province of Cuando Cubango indicated as non-priority. Finally, the execution of stalled projects, with a level of execution above 50 percent, which only lacked the financial availability to be completed.
According to the national director of Public Investments, after these exercises, the province of Cuando Cubango will have two projects under execution within the scope of the PIIM.
As for the sectors, Juciene Cristiano said that there is no more privileged one, as the program is integrated and encompasses a set of areas in an equitable way such as Education, Health, Energy and Water, Transport and communication routes.
According to the source, the National Directorate of Public Investments “plans for the completion of a large number of projects to be inaugurated by the end of June this year”.
The Angolan government has so far invested 380 billion kwanzas in 1,932 projects under the Integrated Plan for Intervention in Municipalities (PIIM), according to the national director of Public Investment, Juciene Cristiano.
The PIIM intends to increase the autonomy of the 164 municipalities in Angola, within the scope of the policy of deconcentration and decentralization of administrative competences, as well as increasing the quality of life throughout the national territory.
