Africa-Press – Angola. A group of 117 Angolan doctors will begin an internship in Portugal on May 5, as part of the cooperation protocol signed in February between the Health Ministries of the two countries, according to a note from the Portuguese entity.
The 117 Angolan doctors, who are in the final phase of the General and Family Medicine specialty, will carry out “an observational internship lasting three months in several Family Health Units (USF) nationwide”, according to a statement sent to the Lusa news agency by the Portuguese Ministry of Health.
“The internship will focus on fundamental areas such as the organization and management of Primary Health Care, logistics and supply, pharmaceutical service, monitoring and evaluation of health indicators and integration of care”, the note details.
The doctors will be welcomed by 16 institutions spread across mainland Portugal “where they will have the opportunity to monitor and observe the functioning of the services, in conjunction with local teams”.
This group of 117 doctors is part of a larger contingent of 630 Angolan health professionals, including doctors, nurses and diagnostic and therapeutic technicians, who will undertake internships in Portuguese health units in the coming months, within the scope of the Cooperation Protocol signed on February 25 between the Ministries of Health of Portugal and Angola, dedicated to the training of human resources in health.
“The internship represents an important opportunity to exchange experiences and share good practices, at a time when Angola is seeking to strengthen universal health coverage, investing in the continuous training of its professionals and an approach focused on primary health care,” the note highlights.
“This initiative is also a clear sign of cooperation between Portugal and the health systems of countries in a context of greater fragility, strengthening the historical, technical and institutional ties between the two countries”, he concludes.
