Africa-Press – Angola. Under Law 35/22 of 23 March, the Amnesty Law, enacted by President João Lourenço, 38 inmates who were serving sentences at the prison in Cacanda, Lunda Norte province, were recently released.
The information was provided this Monday, in Dundo, by the presiding judge of the District Court of Chitato, Baptista Nguenzo, stressing that the process is continuous and in the coming days more inmates will benefit from the aforementioned Law.
He made it known that so far, more than 100 inmates of the Cacanda Prison have already benefited from the Law.
According to the judge, this and other measures will help reduce excessive overcrowding in the jail.
The establishment, designed for 480 prisoners, continues to experience overcrowding, currently housing 574 inmates.
