Africa-Press – Angola. Seventy-five percent of a total of 22 projects with mining exploration titles in Bengo province are at a standstill, said Tuesday in Caxito, the national director of the supervision office of the Ministry of Mineral Resources, Oil and Gas, Jacinto Cortes.
The official who was speaking at a workshop on precepts of administrative procedure for granting mining rights, considered the operational status of mining projects in Bengo to be worrying, since the few in operation do so without respecting the legal precepts established in the mining code.
“The situation requires urgent corrective measures from local bodies, as if the sector works correctly it could bring local development and employment for youth”, he underlined.
The official also said that it was necessary to hold accountable the entities to which the mining titles were granted and which had assumed a commitment before the Executive to develop the activity for which they were licensed.
After about 10 to 15 years, the areas are not being exploited, he said.
He said that there are many investors interested in developing mining activity in Bengo, underlining that the requests will be analyzed and those who demonstrate the technical and financial capacity to work will be selected.
The workshop on precepts of administrative procedures for granting mining rights analyzed issues related to the current state of mining projects in Bengo, the geological potential of the province, and the implementation of the process of transferring competences from minerals to civil construction (inert).
