Africa-Press – Angola. Ninety-two thousand 201 field agents will be able to work on the 2024 General Population and Housing Census, said, this Monday, in Huambo, the deputy director general of the National Institute of Statistics (INE), Amália da Silva.

The person in charge, who was speaking during the training of 30 members of the provincial Commission and the Census Technical Group in Huambo, said they were census takers, supervisors, administrative assistants and technicians, in accordance with the census sections, previously established in the process.

To this end, Amália da Silva made it known that the recruitment process, by invitation, has already begun, and the number of agents to be recruited for each province of the country will depend on the number of registered census sections.

He said that, of the number of field agents, the province of Luanda, the country’s capital, with around 25 thousand census tracts, will have the largest number of personnel to be recruited, and will be followed by Benguela, Huambo and Huíla, with more of four thousand sections each.

Amália da Silva highlighted that 25 thousand technical assistance agents (IT and logistics) will be invited, with experience in statistics and census in INE processes, while the others will be through open recruitment, with the main requirement being completed secondary education and mastery of of computing.

He clarified that public agents and provincial technical assistants in training were recruited by invitation, pending the open general recruitment, to be announced this month by the 2024 Census multisectoral commission.

He informed that the country’s cartographic network is updated at 98.53 percent of the coverage rate, in which, of the country’s 18 provinces, only Benguela, Cunene and Luanda are missing, which are already in the final phase.

In turn, the deputy coordinator of the Support Commission for the 2024 Census in the province of Huambo, Elmano Francisco, said that this region of the country is mobilized to participate in the process, given the complexity of the data to be collected, for assertiveness of public policies of the Angolan State.

During the training, held at the Integrated Technological Training Center (CINFOTEC-Huambo), topics were covered on “General notions of the Census”, “Aspects on administration and finance”, “Field strategies”, “Mobilization and publicity”, “Operations and logistics” and “General understanding of the coverage survey.

The General Population and Housing Census will be carried out across the country from July 19th to August 19th, under the motto “Together we count for Angola”.

In the province of Huambo, seven thousand 579 field agents should be recruited, namely two provincial, 11 municipal, 37 communal and 688 local, to cover the eight thousand 578 census sections identified in the 11 municipalities that make up this region of the country.

According to INE forecasts, two million, 830 thousand 415 inhabitants should be registered in the province of Huambo, distributed across the municipalities of Bailundo, Caála, Cachiungo, Chicala-Cholohanga, Chinjenje, Ecunha, Huambo, Londuimbali, Longonjo, Mungo and Ucuma.

The 2024 General Population and Housing Census will be the third in the country’s history, the first being carried out in 1970, five years before National Independence, proclaimed on November 11, 1975, while the second took place in 2014.
