Africa-Press – Angola. Four thousand and seven liters of fuel, which would be sold in the Republic of Namibia, were seized this week by the National Police in the province of Cunene.
Of the fuel seized, 3,387 liters were gasoline and 620 liters of diesel, said this Sunday, the director of Institutional Communication and Press of the National Police Command in Cunene, chief superintendent Nicolau Tuvecalela.
Nicolau Tuvecalela said that these results of the fight against fuel smuggling in the region are the result of operational actions involving defense and security bodies.
He said that smugglers purchase the product at fuel stations, in Ondjiva and Santa Clara, and use illegal routes to resell it in Namibian territory, at a higher price compared to that practiced in Angola.
He explained that the fuel is normally packed in drums of 25, 30 and 200 liters, respectively, and others choose to place it in the tanks of adapted vehicles.
The official ensured the continuous reinforcement of mechanisms to combat fuel smuggling along the border, aiming to combat such practices.
He also made it known that, over the period, 122 border violations were recorded, 53 for exit and 69 for entry, which resulted in the retention of 866 national citizens.
On the other hand, he reported that two citizens aged 43 and 20 were arrested for sexual rape of minors aged five and 14, in Ondjiva and in the commune of Chiedi, municipality of Namacunde.
The province of Cunene shares 460 kilometers of border with the Republic of Namibia, of which 340 are land and 120 are river.
