Africa-Press – Angola. More than two thousand families living in border towns in the municipalities of Namacunde and Ombadja, in Cunene, were informed, in the last eleven months, about the precautions to be taken to prevent malaria, with a view to reducing the disease in the communities, within the framework of of a program developed by the Non-Governmental Organization TKMI.

The action, according to the organization’s official in Cunene, Emília Wime, is part of the project called “Elimination Eight”, which has as its fundamental objective the fight against malaria in eight SADC countries, as well as improving access to health services. , identification and management of malaria cases in border areas, as well as testing and adequate treatment of the disease, through the creation of new reference or specific health units.

According to Emília Wime, the awareness campaign has more than 550 volunteers, who take the message to border communities about malaria prevention and treatment measures.

To combat malaria, added the TKMI official, it is necessary to improve basic sanitation and individual and collective hygiene.

Emília Wime advised families to sleep under mosquito nets, use repellents, millimeter nets on windows and doors and avoid standing water.

The person in charge of TKMI in Cunene province said that malaria is a disease that can be prevented, if only the population is informed about the causes of the disease.
