Africa-Press – Angola. A forum called “Pensar Moxico” could be held this month by the Provincial Government of Moxico, with a view to gathering ideas aimed at promoting the region’s development.

The event is part of the festivities of the 106th anniversary of the founding of the province, to be celebrated on the 15th of September.

According to the spokesperson for the 2nd extraordinary session of the Government, held in Luena, the forum aims to address measures to promote development in various sectors, potentialities and existing opportunities in Moxico.

The unprecedented meeting also aims to find measures to attract and retain staff, which will be marked with various activities of a pedagogical and informative nature, such as lectures and debates to promote the historical and cultural importance of Moxico.

As part of the celebration of the province’s founding date, it is also planned to hold the second International Cassava Exhibition Congress, with the presence of producers from Brazil and Nigeria. The first event of this magnitude was held in Malange.

The country is one of the 20 largest cassava producers in the world, occupying the 5th position, with an annual production of 16.2 million tons/year, after Brazil, with 21.4 million tons, according to the publication of the Socientifica of 2021.

Data from the provincial agriculture office put Moxico on the list of the four provinces in the country that produce the most cassava, with a figure that varies between 900 and one million tons per year.

Founded on September 15, 1917, the province is made up of nine municipalities, namely Moxico (provincial headquarters), Alto Zambeze, Bundas, Camanongue, Léua, Luacano, Luau, Luchazes and Cameia.

Moxico is the largest province in Angola, whose capital is the city of Luena, with an area of ​​203 thousand and 23 km2, with a population of 994 thousand 53 inhabitants, according to the projection of the National Institute of Statistics (INE).
