Africa-Press – Angola. More than 22,000 cubic meters of wood are authorized for exploitation in the province of Moxico, during the current forest campaign.

The available figure represents an increase of three thousand cubic meters, compared to the quota made available in the previous year (2022), press this Friday in Luena.

According to the head of the general services and accounting section of the Provincial Department of the Forest Development Institute (IDF), Domingos Cateta Weva, 10 companies, 20 less compared to the same period, have already submitted applications for logging in the province.

The official who was speaking to the press yesterday on the sidelines of the extended board of directors of the Provincial Office for Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries of Moxico, said that 13 species of the matter will be exploited, with emphasis on mumanga, mussive and sunflower which are the most sought after given their market value.

Official data indicate that among the 700,000 hectares of forests that the province has, suitable for logging, 19,000 cubic meters are located in the municipalities of Moxico (headquarters), Bundas, Luau, Alto Zambeze and Luchazes.

Recently, the provincial government of Moxico promised to create a multisectoral commission, to reinforce the supervision of logging in the district, with a view to reducing the negative impact of the activity on the environment.

In an ordinary session led by Governor Ernesto Muangala in the municipality of Cameia, members of the government stated that logging in the region still does not provide the desired benefits, compared to the negative impacts that the exercise causes, such as deforestation and the degradation of roads. of communication, taking into account the means used for this purpose.

The province of Moxico has 380,000 hectares of wood reserve land and is the second largest in the country after Cabinda.
