Africa-Press – Angola. The Members of the Parliament (MP) of Lunda-Norte provincial circle said on Thursday that the province has made significant progress in the sectors of Justice, Agriculture and Energy, factors that have been decisive for its growth and socio-economic development.
In recent years, the Government has made major investments in the energy sector that allowed the rehabilitation and expansion of the Luachimo hydroelectric dam, increasing its production capacity from 8 to 34 megawatts of electricity, costing more than US$212 million.
Also in this sector, 19 million, 706 thousand and 428 euros were invested, 80 percent of which was financed by Sweden and 20% by South Africa, for the construction of the photovoltaic park in the municipality of Lucapa, with a production capacity of 7.19 megawatts of energy.
Three more photovoltaic plants are underway in the municipalities of Cafunfo (41 MW), Cambulo (38.6 megawatts) and Cuango (26 MW), projects included in the rural electrification program, which provides for a total of 15 solar energy parks in the same number of locations in Lunda-Norte.
Speaking to the press, at the end of the meeting with the deputy governor for the social, political and economic sector of Lunda-Norte, Frederico Barroso, the spokesperson for the MP of the provincial circle, Elisa Solange Paxe, stressed that these investments have allowed citizens in the interior to have access to energy from the public grid and cheap.
She said that after visits to the municipalities of Lóvua, Dundo, Lucapa and Cambulo, the MP witnessed that despite the current financial and economic situation, the Government remains committed to improving basic social services.
She said that the Justice sector in the province is also making significant progress in the expansion of services, since in almost all municipalities there are conditions for the issuance of Identity Cards.
With regard to agriculture, the MP highlighted the agricultural and livestock project implemented in the municipality of Lóvua, under the National Plan for the Promotion of Grain Production (PLANAGRÃO), which in less than a year produced more than 700 tons of soybeans, 300 tons of corn and beans.
She also highlighted the expansion of the production field in the province, which currently stands at more than 300,000 hectares, where in the current agricultural season it is expected to harvest more than 2 million tons of various products, which are being produced by more than 200,000 peasant families.
On the other hand, she said that he informed the government that the populations of the municipalities of Cambulo, Lucapa and Lóvua, cry out for water systems, restart of the stopped works, expansion of the school and sanitary network.
She said that the group of deputies from the provincial circle recommended to the government the need to include the paralyzed works in the General State Budget (OGE) 2026.
For four days, the MP, three from the MPLA and two from UNITA, inspected the sectors of Justice and Human Rights, Agriculture, Economic and Productive Development, mining, among others, in the municipalities of Lóvua, Dundo, Lucapa and Cambulo.
