Africa-Press – Angola. Angolans will still be able to vote using their voter registration card in 2027, contrary to the Executive’s proposal, which defended the identity card as the only valid document for voting.

The proposal to eliminate summary minutes, defended by the MPLA, also fell, with the deputies reaching an agreement on the publication of the minutes of the meeting, with the signature and stamp of the president of the assembly and with copies to the candidates represented.

The deputies debating the proposed amendment to the General Elections Law agreed that the voter card will cease to be valid after the 2027 general elections, a measure that is in line with what was defended by the opposition, which has been insisting that the majority of citizens, according to data presented by the Executive itself, do not have an identity card.

Regarding the elimination of summary minutes in polling stations, as advocated in the Executive’s proposal, the deputies agreed to publish the minutes of the polling station, signed and stamped by the president of the polling station and with copies to the candidates represented at the polling station.

Regarding the possibility of voters who have voted remaining outside the polling station, parliamentarians reached a consensus that a distance of 200 meters should be allowed, not complying with either the Executive’s proposal (1,000 meters) or UNITA’s (50 meters).

It should be noted that the National Assembly began its 21st joint meetings on Monday to discuss legislation related to the Electoral Legislative Package, with a view to the 2027 general elections.

Of the diplomas that constitute the Electoral Legislative Package, the following stand out: the proposed Law to Amend Law No. 36/11, of December 21 – Organic Law on General Elections, the Draft Law to Amend Law No. 36/11, of December 21 – Organic Law on General Elections, and the Proposed Law to Amend Law No. 8/15, of June 15 – Law on Unofficial Electoral Registration.

The draft Amendment to Law 21/21 of September 21 – Law on Official Electoral Registration, and the proposed Amendment to Law 12/12 of April 13 – Organic Law on the Organization and Functioning of the National Electoral Commission are also included in the same package.
