Africa-Press – Angola. The leader of the MPLA parliamentary group, Reis Júnior, condemned on Thursday the recent sexual abuse crime committed against Belma, a minor whose video went viral on social media. He called for the perpetrators to be held accountable and for justice to be served rigorously.
During his quarterly political statement, the lawmaker highlighted the importance of humanism and the absolute protection of children, considering this duty a responsibility of the State and a non-negotiable commitment of society.
The lawmaker highlighted the Parliament’s role as the most political and institutional relevant representative body in Angola, where the sovereign will of the people is expressed.
Local Authorities
The leader of the MPLA parliamentary group reiterated, on the occasion, support for the implementation of local authorities, highlighting the need for political convergence, institutional dialogue and a high sense of state in the conduct of parliamentary work.
He noted that improving the quality of legislative production is a pillar of governance, transparency, and the effectiveness of public administration, highlighting the importance of laws as the basis of a just democratic state at the service of the citizen.
In the economic chapter, the MPLA deputy highlighted the fact that the International Monetary Fund (IMF) congratulated the Angolan government for the success of the economic reforms started in 2017, which resulted in the country’s economic growth in recent years.
The lawmaker defended the need for a combination of structural reforms, fiscal discipline, and efficient management of public resources with the protection of the most vulnerable citizens, especially the youth.
Albertina Navita Ngolo, leader of the opposition UNITA parliamentary group, on her turn, expressed concern about economic and social developments, pointing to the continuous increase in the cost of living and the inadequacy of the minimum wage.
The leader of the PHA party, Florbela Catarina Malaquias, reaffirmed the commitment to building a more humanized society and the need for dialogue in the legislative process.
Benedito Daniel, from the PRS party, focused his speech on the role of the courts and the Judiciary in consolidating the democratic rule of law, emphasizing that everyone, government officials and citizens, must be subject to the law.
He warned that bias or favoritism by some magistrates could undermine public trust in institutions and damage the credibility of the judiciary.
