MPLA defends strengthening the collective struggle for progress on the continent

Africa-Press – Angola. The MPLA defended, this Thursday, the strengthening of the spirit of collective struggle aimed at reaffirming the progress of the African continent.

This fight, according to the MPLA, aims at the materialization and enjoyment of freedoms, under conditions of equality in the world context of Nations.

This position was manifested in a Declaration by the Political Bureau of the MPLA, in reference to the 25th of May, Africa Day, which is celebrated yesterday.

In the declaration, he pays tribute to all those who, in 1963, in Addis Ababa (Ethiopia), founded the Organization of African Unity (OAU), with the aim of defending the independence of colonized peoples.

Among these objectives was also the fight against neocolonialism, the promotion of peace and solidarity among African countries.

In this sense, the Political Bureau of the MPLA appealed to all the Angolan people, in order to mark the date with renewed hope that the actions carried out by the Governments and States will lead to the realization of Africa, the cradle of humanity, as a continent that is more united, emancipated and resistant to maneuvers contrary to its growth and development.

Imbued with the spirit of Africanity, he expressed his unconditional support for the Head of Executive Power, in relation to policy measures in the diplomatic sphere undertaken to reinforce and consolidate Angola’s role in the international context, in general and in Africa in particular.

This, he says, with a view to reinforcing the country’s position among the main players in the Southern African Development Community (SADC), Economic Community of Central African States (CEEAC), African Union (AU) and the International Conference of the Greater Lagos (CIRGL), and other institutions.

For the MPLA, the Republic of Angola must remain firmly at the forefront of promoting the political, economic, social and cultural integration of the sub-regions to which it belongs, standing out in the defense of permanent dialogue as the safest and most effective channel for resolution of existing armed conflicts.

From these conflicts, he argues, emerge, as main consequences, the weakening of institutions, Governments and States, the impoverishment of populations and their immersion in cyclical humanitarian and economic crises, as well as the drastic increase in the number of losses of human lives, which in no way benefits the continent and its peoples.

For this reason, he also underlined his conviction as a party whose intentions are aligned with the struggle against all new forms of subjugation of Africa and its peoples.

This, he adds, is aimed at perpetuating “the ignoble idea of the lack of local competence to address and resolve the major issues of the present time, with greater incidence on those directly linked to socio/economic and cultural issues”.
