Africa-Press – Angola. The president of the MPLA Parliamentary Group was received on Wednesday, 15th, on a courtesy visit, in Praia, by João Baptista Pereira, his counterpart from the Cape Verde Independence Party (GP-PAICV).
In brief statements to the press, Virgílio de Fontes Pereira considered the meeting “extremely interesting”, emphasizing that it made it possible to socialize political projects, namely in terms of cooperation between the two parliamentary groups.
He added that “on the MPLA side, there are already several actions in the pipeline, namely, meetings between the two countries in order to strengthen cooperation ties, with a special focus on the Culture sector”.
João Baptista Pereira, president of the PAICV Parliamentary Group, said that this visit is a retribution of the one made to Angola, last January, and constitutes an opportunity to exchange views again, on the relationship between the two parliamentary groups and to review the protocol in force, in order to adjust it to new times, taking into account “the intention of elevating the relationship between Angola and Cape Verde to the level of a special strategic partnership”.
He stressed that he was pleased to hear from the leader of the MPLA Parliamentary Group information about the growth of the non-oil sector, in the order of 6.4 percentage points, stressing that “everything good that happens in Angola always favors Cape Verde and the Cape Verdeans ”.
Virgílio de Fontes Pereira told the press that on the part of the Parliamentary Group he leads there is every interest in the implementation of the direct air link project between Angola and Cape Verde and that at the end of this semester or at the beginning of the next there may be “good news”.
