Africa-Press – Angola. Manuel Nunes Junior, the first provincial secretary of the ruling MPLA in Benguela, highlighted on Saturday the impact of the government’s ongoing projects in the region. These projects continue to promote development and improve the quality of life for the population.
Speaking at a mass political rally ahead of the MPLA’s 69th anniversary on December 10, Nunes emphasized the impact of social projects in education, health, water, electricity, public lighting, and access roads.
He mentioned the construction of classrooms expected to benefit over 100,000 students by 2027, which will reduce the number of children outside the education system and those studying in inadequate classrooms.
Primary health care follows, with an emphasis on rehabilitating and constructing several health posts and centers in Benguela province.
According to Nunes, reference hospitals are being built, including the Catumbela Maternity and Children’s Hospital, the Lobito Municipal Hospital, and the Catumbela General Hospital.
He announced that a public tender has been completed and construction and equipping work will begin on the Bocoio Municipal Hospital, the Cubal Regional Hospital, and two provincial hospital units: one a sanatorium and the other a psychiatric hospital.
Júnior also spoke about investments made in projects to improve the water supply to the coastal municipalities of Lobito, Catumbela, Benguela, Navegantes, and Baía Farta.
“This project will allow for new household connections, reaching the peripheral areas of these municipalities and, in particular, the higher areas of the cities,” the politician said.
He said the government will continue to improve water supply systems in inland municipalities to meet the population’s drinking water needs.
The MPLA secretary in Benguela emphasized the project to electrify the inland municipalities through the Lomaum dam, which is being coordinated with the Ministry of Energy and Water.
However, he stated that the municipality of Cubal is given priority since the dam is located there.
“These are just a few examples to demonstrate that our party is truly concerned with solving the problems of the people in the province of Benguela,” he said. He is convinced that the party will continue to work to deserve the trust and support of the people of Benguela.
