Africa-Press – Angola. The MPLA is the most interested in creating autonomous power in Angola, its president João Lourenço said this Saturday in Luanda.

According to João Lourenço, in the presentation of the 2024 Political Agenda, it was the MPLA that had the initiative, without pressure, to speak for the first time about the need to create and implement local authorities in Angola.

The party leader said that the party was not limited to speaking, but also preparing and approving the electoral package for local authorities, with only one document remaining to be complete.

The party in Government, he confessed, is the one that most feels the need for the emergence of local power to feel more relieved, as part of the responsibilities will be carried out by another power.

João Lourenço recalled that local authority power will not conflict with State power, because they are distinct, but converge towards the same interest, that of helping citizens.

The Administrative Political Division, he explained, which will create two provinces and another 161 municipalities, will not prevent the creation of local authorities, as the country needs more municipalities and communes.

He reminded the opposition that local authorities are not required or offered, they work to achieve this objective.

However, he said, as always, it will be up to the MPLA to make it possible to implement local power in Angola, with its majority vote in Parliament and finally, after all the steps have been followed, it will be up to the President of the Republic to call what will be the first local elections. in the country.

He instructed the party to start preparing members and not just preparing candidates to preside over municipal councils, stressing that they must be committed to the fight against corruption.

“We don’t want those who are not known even in the community where they present themselves as candidates, we are going to bet on the right man and woman, those who will actually engage in resolving local problems”, he warned.

He informed that the preparation and selection of staff to participate in local elections must begin well in advance, in other words, this work must begin now.

Community Abroad

He also pointed out the need for the MPLA, in 2024, to pay particular attention to the Angolan community abroad, to be closer regardless of the work that the State must do with them.

He informed that as a party, the MPLA must work with all Angolans in the diaspora, not just the militants, but with everyone who makes up communities abroad.

CIVICOP

On the other hand, João Lourenço encouraged the Commission for Reconciliation in Memory of the Victims of Political Conflicts (CIVICOP) to continue its work throughout the national territory and without the consent of any political party.

For the Angolan Head of State, families have the right to recover the remains of their loved ones or to at least conclude that everything was done to provide a dignified funeral.

CIVICOP, he made it known, must do its work throughout the national territory, as there is no space for parties and no authorization is needed from them, only Angolans as a whole own the geographical limits from Cabinda to Cunene and from the sea to the Cazombo salient.
