Africa-Press – Angola. The President of the MPLA, João Lourenço, reaffirmed this Monday, in Luanda, his commitment to building a true market economy, which gives primacy to the private business sector in the production of goods and services for domestic consumption and export.
At the opening of the Fifth Ordinary Meeting of the party’s Central Committee, João Lourenço said that the construction of the market economy must guarantee, at the same time, a greater supply of jobs for citizens, in particular for young people.
The President of the Republic also declared that the country is carrying out a set of political and economic reforms and a set of measures that aim to create a good business environment and attract investors.
He declared that the ongoing political and economic reforms aim to strengthen the foundations of the Democratic State and the Rule of Law and make the Angolan economy more diversified and competitive.
He spoke of the need to produce more goods and services, reduce imports, increase exports, increase the supply of jobs, taking into account Agostinho Neto’s maxim, “the most important thing is to solve the people’s problems”, highlighting among the measures the combating corruption and impunity.
He denounced the existence of retrograde forces that, instead of applauding and encouraging, devalue actions in the fight against corruption, and have allied themselves with those who for years used the treasury and public assets on a large scale for their own benefit and overthrow the MPLA, committed to fight against such evil.
He renewed his commitment to the well-being of Angolans, in meeting their basic needs for food, energy and drinking water, housing, education, health, among others. He urged the militants to be closer to the bases, because the people expect the strength of the presence, the word and the message.
The party leader asked the activists to maintain their essential focus on fulfilling the government program, approved at the polls, and not to be distracted by diversionary maneuvers, as well as making the MPLA the largest party in Angola, and the most inclusive.
He praised the action of the deputies of the National Assembly who disapproved an initiative that aimed to remove the President of the Republic.
Angola/USA cooperation
He stated that Angola became the first African country to feel the benefits of the strategic partnership with the United States of America, with financing for the consortium that will explore the Lobito corridor, a logistics infrastructure that will bring benefits to regional and international trade.
He added that among the gains from the partnership with the USA are the financing of photovoltaic energy production projects for the south of the country.
67th anniversary of the foundation
He saluted the party for 67 years of fighting for the cause of the Angolan people, remembering that among the great achievements is the achievement of national independence from the colonial yoke, victory over foreign aggressors and the achievement of definitive peace, which brought the environment conducive to the process of reconstruction.
The meeting, preceded by another from the Political Bureau, debates issues linked to the party’s internal life and the country’s political, economic and social situation.
