Africa-Press – Angola. More than 2,000 school desks, of the 5,613 planned for the municipalities of Menongue, Calai and Rivungo, are being distributed by the Provincial Education Office in Cuando Cubango.

More than 2,000 school desks, of the 5,613 planned for the municipalities of Menongue, Calai and Rivungo, are being distributed by the Provincial Education Office in Cuando Cubango.

According to the director of the Provincial Education Office, José Samba, the more than 2,000 desks will minimize the deficit that schools face, thus allowing better accommodation for students.

He added that, in the municipality of Menongue, where the process began, the desks were distributed to the schools Tribuna do Povo, 4 de Fevereiro, Cambumbe, Mavinda, the Technical Institute of Health and the ADPP Primary School.

“This is the first batch we have received, the desks are being assembled at the Provincial Education Office and will later be distributed to schools in the municipalities of Calai and Rivungo”, he said.

He explained that the priorities include schools that were completely vandalized, such as 4 de Fevereiro, which will receive 300 desks, Tribuna do Povo, with 200, and the rest will receive according to needs.

According to José Samba, the municipality of Menongue, which has the largest number of schools in the province, has a large shortage of desks, due to the constant acts of vandalism, carried out by the population that lives around the educational institutions, who use these materials as furniture in their homes and/or churches.

He appealed to the population to redouble vigilance and take good care of schools.

According to José Samba, the Provincial Education Office has also received a considerable number of teaching manuals, which total 885,730 of the 1,071,657 planned since the beginning of the current academic year.

The pedagogical assistant director of the Tribuna do Povo School, Osvaldo José, said that the institution has ten classrooms, of which only four had desks, due to acts of vandalism. He added that the 200 desks, added to those that the school already had, will better accommodate the 1,700 students enrolled in the current academic year, in primary education and in the first cycle.
