Africa-Press – Angola. Renowned musician Captain Jota-Jota from Moxico province died early Sunday morning in Luena. The artist, whose real name was Joaquim Jorge Gouveia, began singing in 2005, then in the band of artist Ray-Lex. Two years later, he embarked on a solo career and released an album titled “Tongola Lunga.”
This album, blending various styles, such as Sassá Cokwe folk music, sungura, kizomba, and zouk, catapulted the artist Captain Jota-Jota’s image in the eastern region of the country, including Moxico, Lunda Sul, and Lunda Norte.
Captain left behind hits from his recordings, including songs such as “Bango Banguleno,” “Kwenda Tha Pwezo,” “Nhacandanji,” “Mulher Bonita,” and “Xica Ngueji.”
For musician Raimundo da Silva “Ray-Lex,” Jota-Jota’s death is an irreparable loss for this artist, as he still had much to offer in music, for the people and, above all, for his fans.
Meanwhile, the section chief of the provincial office of Culture, Henriques Salomão “Chefe Chicomba,” described the artist as an excellent professional who focused on reviving culture through the messages of his songs. “This event will leave its mark on the region’s music scene,” the official concluded.
In addition to being a musician and composer, Captain Jota-Jota was a geography teacher at one of the Luena schools, a field in which he graduated from the Instituto Superior Politécnico do Moxico (ISP-Moxico).
Jota-Jota was born in the Zorró neighborhood, on the outskirts of Luena, Moxico, in 1989.
