Africa-Press – Angola. Fish production in Namibe province reached 81,600 tons in 2022, with an increase of around 32% compared to the same period last year.
According to data that press had access to this Friday, from the Provincial Office for Fisheries and the Sea in Namibe, of the total landing of fish, 35% was destined for direct consumption, 64.9% for processing and freezing and 0 .1% for canning.
In the period under analysis, the fishing sector also controlled the movement of a total of 822 artisanal fishing vessels, divided into the two fishing areas of the province, mostly motor-propelled, carrying out the activity with line, mesh and seine gear.
In the onshore processing industry of products derived from the sea, there was a production of 53,106 tonnes, with frozen fish standing out with 50,813 tonnes, having registered an increase of 226% compared to the same period last year.
Meanwhile, total salt production fell in 2022, recording 4.5 thousand tons less 34% compared to the same period last year.
As part of the inspection, 40 industries in this sector were inspected.
