Namibia reiterates interest in ANGOSAT-2 services

Africa-Press – Angola. Namibia reiterated this Tuesday, in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, its interest in acquiring the services of the Angolan satellite ANGOSAT-2.

According to a press release, the information was provided by the minister of Information and Communication Technologies of that country, Peya Mushelenga, to the head of the Ministry of Telecommunications, Information Technologies and Social Communication of Angola, Mário Oliveira, on the sidelines of the World Radiocommunications Conference (WRC), in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.

The document points out that in today’s meeting, requested by the Namibian side, the two counterparts addressed the current levels of cooperation between the sectors that each manages, with ANGOSAT-2 being an issue that was emphasized due to it being in the negotiation phase.

According to the note, in addition to Namibia, Zambia’s communications operators are at a more advanced stage in negotiations with Angola, to benefit from ANGOSAT-2 services, starting in 2024, according to minister Mário Oliveira, during the COP-28.

Mário de Oliveira said that there are currently ongoing negotiations with foreign operators, adding that the satellite, as such, is in a position to provide any type of communications services.

To this end, the Satellite Control and Mission Center was inaugurated on January 27, 2023, by President João Lourenço, an intelligent infrastructure with multiple engineering advantages.

The minister added that some countries had already expressed their intention to purchase ANGOSAT-2 services.

The WRC-23 World Radiocommunications Conference is being promoted by the International Telecommunications Union (ITU), a specialized United Nations agency for Information and Communication Technologies (ICT).

The event ends on the 15th of this month and brings together national government entities and telecommunications regulators, the main users and suppliers of radio communications worldwide

With an expected useful life of 15 years, the Angolan satellite ANGOSAT-2, launched into orbit on October 12, 2022, is one of the projects of the National Space Program Management Office (GGPEN), a body assigned to the Ministry of Telecommunications, Technology Information and Social Communication (MINTTICS).
