Namibian Diplomat Praises Rise of Women to Leadership Positions in Africa

Africa-Press – Angola. Namibia’s Consul General for the Angolan provinces of Cunene, Huila and Namibe, Annel Endjala, on Saturday in Otjiwarongo praised the rise of African women to leadership positions in various fields.

Speaking on the sidelines of the International Women’s Day celebrations marked on March 8, the diplomat said women have played a prominent role in public and private life, as well as in decision-making positions.

According to the diplomat, Namibia is part of this development with the election of the first female President of the Republic, who previously served as Vice President.

The diplomat recalled that in March this year, her country will witness the swearing in of President Netumbu Nandi Ndatwah, who will make history as Namibia’s first female president, as has happened in Liberia, Tanzania and Ethiopia.

Annel Endjala also emphasized the female leadership seen in Angola in various sovereign bodies, where Cunene is governed by a woman, something she is proud of.

The diplomat said she believes that Angola is going through a dynamic process that requires the mutual and active participation of men and women in order to guarantee economic and social development.

“In fact, it is a phenomenon that is growing in the continent and in the world, and represents an important milestone in the promotion, empowerment and equality of the sexes, a process that is complex due to some cultural barriers,” the diplomat said.

The diplomat pointed out that these achievements are a reflection of the struggle of thousands of women leaders, engaged in the most diverse sectors of activity, who have fought to conquer more and more of their space in order to contribute to the development of their communities.

Annel Endjala emphasized that women are the proof of development on the continent, based on the strategies of the various regional sectors at the level of Africa, the Southern African Development Community and its representation at the United Nations.

International Women’s Day is a commemorative day, officially recognized by the UN in the 1970s, which symbolizes the historical struggle of women for gender equality.
