Africa-Press – Angola. The National Assembly (AN) Speaker, Carolina Cerqueira, congratulated, on Thursday in Luanda, her Portuguese counterpart on his re-election.
According to a press release, in the congratulatory message the Speaker renewed the vote of confidence to the Portuguese counterpart as a clear recognition of the high level of competence, democratic spirit and commitment to the highest republican values that he has demonstrated throughout his remarkable political career.
Carolina Cerqueira expressed willingness to continue to deepen historic ties of friendship, solidarity and cooperation that unite both countries, in a fraternal relationship, in favor of strengthening democracies and well-being.
The Speaker wished the best of luck in carrying out the noble duties that have once again been entrusted to the Portuguese parliament Speaker.
Cooperation between Angola and Portugal is a strategic partnership that is tangible in several areas, with the aim of promoting the development, prosperity and well-being of both people, the two sides have signed several bilateral cooperation agreements, especially in the economic and financial fields, with emphasis on the Strategic Cooperation Program, signed in 2023 due until 2027.
The program covers significant sectors such as Finance, Higher Education, Infrastructure, Mass Media, Justice, Defense and a wide range of important actions to be implemented, the document states.
In March 1976, Angola and Portugal established diplomatic relations, after the declaration of National Independence on Nov 11, 1975.
