Africa-Press – Angola. The National Assembly will have 50 international observers to monitor the election on August 24, divided by several countries, with emphasis on the member states of SADC, CPLP and the Organization of American States.

The information was confirmed yesterday by the spokesman for the Ad-hoc Commission, José Lopes Semedo, recently created, within the scope of the General Elections of 24 this month, by the president of the National Assembly, Fernando Dias dos Santos.

At the end of the meeting, which was used to introduce the members of the aforementioned commission, deputy José Semedo said that next week the first group of observers from the Community of Portuguese-Speaking Countries (CPLP) will arrive.

The invitation to representatives of the organizations mentioned above, he stressed, is the result of a meeting of the chairmen of the parliamentary groups, based on the principle of proportionality. International observers, he stressed, will monitor and verify the transparency, internal and international credibility, as well as the “fairness” of the electoral process.

At the first meeting, which took place yesterday, the Commission approved a series of documents relating to the distribution of tasks to the groups of observers.

The spokesperson stressed that the Commission does not have much intervention in the electoral process. “We have to accompany the international observers who visit the country, in the sense of providing all the necessary support for the good execution of their work”, he said.

It should be remembered that the Technical Commission is made up of seven deputies from all political parties with parliamentary seats and was created by order of the President of the National Assembly, Fernando da Piedade, based on the Electoral Law, in order to invite representatives of organizations and foreign parties to accompany the electoral process.

Observers will remain in the country until the release of the final results of the General Elections.
