Africa-Press – Angola. Sixteen homicides were registered by the National Police in Huíla during the first quarter of the current year, a decrease of 14 compared to the same period of the previous year.
These crimes, which represent 1.5% of all crimes, occurred in the municipalities of Lubango and Chibia with three each, Cacula, Caluquembe and Chicomba with two, Humpata, Quipungo, Quilengues and Jamba with one, respectively.
Speaking to the press Monday, in Lubango, the head of operations of the National Police (PN) in Huíla, intendant Evaristo Haufico, said that the homicides were carried out by 12 people known to the victims and four by the action of criminals.
The person in charge who took stock of the public security situation in the province, stated that in terms of the means used in the commission of the crimes, cutting and blunt instruments, beatings, sharp instruments and firearms stand out.
He informed that they listed a total of 1,074 different crimes (-89), whose criminal rate was 25.9 crimes per 100,000 inhabitants and the highlight fell to Lubango with 2.94 crimes per 10,000 inhabitants, followed by Humpata with 0.44 and Chipindo with 0.32 per thousand inhabitants.
In addition to the 1.5% of homicides, he mentioned that 32 crimes of sexual abuse were registered among the most prominent criminal types, representing three %, 397 of thefts (37.9%), 244 of theft (23.3%), 283 of offenses to the physical integrity (27%), 18 sexual assault crimes with 1.7%, among others.
He highlighted that the crimes of sexual abuse were committed by 19 people known to the victims and 13 by the action of criminals, occurring 21 in homes, nine on public roads, in a private institution and work with one case.
“As for the form of commitment, 12 were by threat, 10 by enticement and the same number by defenselessness of the person. The same occurred in the municipalities of Lubango (21), Matala, Chipindo and Cuvango (two), Chibia, Quipungo, Chicomba, Caconda and Caluquembe (one)”, he continued.
Road accidents cause 38 deaths
Thirty-eight people died and 333 others were injured, as a result of 273 road accidents that occurred in the province of Huíla, during the period in question.
According to the head of the PN operations section in Huíla, intendant Evaristo Haufico, compared to the same previous period there was equality in the number of injured, a reduction of 12 deaths and 33 accidents and the municipalities of Lubango, Matala and Caluquembe have a higher number of cases.
Among the accidents, 85 were run over (-21), 59 collisions between motor vehicles (+15), 56 collisions between motor vehicles and motorcycles (-06).
He pointed out as the main causes of accidents, excessive speed, dominating the period with a total of 133 cases, followed by not giving up priority with 28 and lack of precaution with 26 cases.
