Africa-Press – Angola. The National Judo Team, in both sexes, can carry out the last phase of preparation in Portugal, aiming at the African Championship, to be disputed from 26 to 29 May, in Algeria.

In “Lusian lands”, the national team plans the final work of a period of 15 days, according to the technical team member, Alexandre Martins, informed Thursday to ANGOP.

Currently, national judokas are in the second phase of preparation, which takes place in the province of Benguela. The manager assured that the trip to Portugal is scheduled for the 6th of May, in that European country, the pre-competitive stage of improvements in the various aspects and experiences of European judokas. “Portugal has great experience in terms of competitions in Europe. Many opposing countries, which we will face in Africa, have judokas who evolve in Europe. Therefore, the Angolan Judo Federation (FAJ), taking advantage of the good relations with the Portuguese counterpart , elected this country for the preparation”, he said.

The National Team, which started work on 21 March, has been in Benguela for two weeks, where it perfects its physical and technical components, and includes 17 athletes, nine male and eight female.

Regarding Angola’s objective in the competition, Alexandre Martins stressed that it is an improvement from the fifth position achieved in the last edition, held in 2021.

The men’s squad includes Edimilson Pedro (-63 kg), António Candeeiro, Acácio Cassule (-73), Wilson Afonso, Gildo Domingos, Adriano Tchissenge (-81), Sílvio Jorge (-90), Piter da Silva and Dilson Toneto (+100).

In females, they were named Andresa António (52kg), Jeovana Peris, Neide Mucunji, Joana Tchapopia (57), Priscila Marta (63), Maria Miangue, Luísa José (-70) and Cristany Rodrigues (+70).

The aforementioned team is highlighted by Neide Mucunji, gold medalist at the 2019 African Championship, held in Antananarivo, Madagascar.
