NATO and Britain deny the existence of a “dirty bomb”

Africa-Press – Angola. British and NATO authorities yesterday again denied Russian accusations about the planning of a “dirty bomb” by Ukrainian forces, with the UK Ministry of Defense saying that it would keep diplomatic channels open to “manage the risk of miscalculations”.

In a statement posted on Twitter, the British Government says that Admiral Tony Radakin, from the Defense Ministry, spoke with Russian Army General Vasilyevich Gerasimov, in which the British “rejected Russian allegations that Ukraine is planning actions to escalate the conflict, and recalled British support for Ukraine”.

“Both military leaders agreed on the importance of keeping channels of communication open between the UK and Russia, to manage the risk of miscalculations and facilitate peace,” the British government added.

NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg also said on Twitter that he spoke with the United States and United Kingdom Defense Secretaries about the Kremlin’s allegations.

“NATO allies reject this claim. Russia cannot use this as a pretext for escalation. We must stand ready in our support for Ukraine,” Stoltenberg appealed.

In recent days, Moscow has been pushing the theory that Ukraine could use a “dirty bomb”, an attack that will include radioactive material. NATO allies, however, warn that this could be another way for Russia to find a pretext to use chemical or even nuclear weapons in the war against Ukraine.
