Africa-Press – Angola. With less than 10 days to go before the start of participation in the 26th African Championship, scheduled for the period from the 27th of this month to the 7th of December, the National Senior Women’s Handball Team is physically fit and in good clinical condition, according to guarantees given by Nelson Catito, assistant to Carlos Viver, national coach. When asked about the clinical condition of the work group in Saint Etienne, France, where the training camp is taking place, the coach was not very detailed. He spoke in general terms, but made it clear that, if there are clinical cases, they are of little importance. “So far, everything is going as planned,” he replied.
The Pearls of Africa today complete the phase of integration and consolidation of the game model to be used in the CAN.
The National Team is scheduled to hold its two final training sessions today, before assessing the group’s readiness for the friendly match against the Czech Republic, scheduled for tomorrow night.
In the second game, scheduled for Sunday, the Pearls will face the French national team, to whom they lost, 38-24, at the Paris’2024 Olympic Games, three months ago.
In the last work sessions, the technical team invested in improving the offensive and defensive tactical diagrams, where the attack against 6X0 and 5X1 defenses were predominant. The psychological aspect, with motivational lectures, is one of the areas of work that the coaches do not neglect.
In recent statements , Catito highlighted the ambition of the coaching staff to have a team prepared to face any team: “We are working to optimise performance levels, within the philosophy of effective work, which allows our athletes to play against any team in Africa or Europe”.
Angola will play the preliminary round in Group B, with the host country, Tunisia, Guinea, Uganda and Cameroon. In the first round, the Pearls will face the Tunisians, then the Ugandans, followed by the Guineans in the third round, the organizers in the fourth, and in the final round the Cameroonians.
