Africa-Press – Angola. The Netherlands expressed availability to cooperate with the Benguela business class in agroproductors’ training, investment and innovation, in order to make the province in a competitive supplier of dried fruits to the European market.

This demonstration was advanced by the recently signed financial and senior financial advisor to the Embassy (AEB).

The memorandum aims to leverage the production, transformation and export of dried fruits of the province of Benguela, such as pineapple, mango, banana and papaya, to the Dutch market.

To achieve this goal, Armindo Teuns announced the formation of dried and dehydrated fruit producers of the province of Benguela, which will be given by Dutch experts.

‘We need quality products. In September we will have the first workshop that is a concrete action of this memorandum and we will bring Dutch experts to Benguela,’ he said, referring to being the pretense of the Netherlands to work harder in the business plans.

Now, Armindo Teuns said, the expectation is that by the end of the year the business plan will be approved by the Netherlands, including funding, for the pilot project in Benguela Province.

It is that the implementation of this project will allow the province to develop the value chain and perform dry fruit exports to the European market, where they are widely accepted.

For this reason, it points out the formation of farmers and entrepreneurs who dedicate themselves to the processing of dried fruits as an important step, in order to develop a sustainable project together.

He also stressed his studies to evaluate the potential of the province in the production, transformation and marketing of fruits, such as mango and pineapple in its dehydrated form, whose positive result led to the formalization of this cooperation agreement.

In practice, he explained that one of the goals of this partnership with the Benguela Business Alliance is also to insert Dutch experts into the local agricultural ecosystem, to work with the companies.

For now, it says that it is intended to identify the potential producers of dried fruit, noting that the agreement is open to all those interested, either on the coast or inside the province.

About the date of the first export, Armindo Teuns believes that by the way things are walking, with the support of the provincial government of Benguela, this year there will be results, even for rehearsal.

‘It all will depend on the capacity of local producers. We will work fast, but well,’ he said, implying that the Netherlands have all the conditions for the agreement to translate into concrete projects.

In fact, the representative of the Embassy of the Netherlands left the guarantee that the memorandum includes support to producers with equipment, in order to modernize the process of transforming dried fruits still done by hand in Benguela.
