Africa-Press – Angola. The new commander of the Eastern Military Region, Lieutenant General David Manuel Cavanda, recently appointed, took up his duties this Tuesday, after exchanging portfolios with his predecessor, Carlos Sachimo.

The presentation of the new commander to the troops took place at the command of the 72nd brigades, in the city of Luena, Moxico province.

While presiding over the presentation and handover ceremony, the Army commander, General Serafim Kiteculo, recommended rigor and patriotism in carrying out missions, with a view to safeguarding national sovereignty.

He called for the reinforcement of discipline and rescue of moral values ​​within the troops, with a view to preserving national symbols, adding that the military must act as a true activist of the nation.

He specified the phenomenon of changing military uniforms and disclosing the secrets of internal activities on social networks, as practices that have pinched the corporation.

“We will be very forceful with these practices, because we already have mechanisms to detect publications of improper information, (…)”, he warned

The new commander of the region, Lieutenant General David Cavanda, asked for collaboration, commitment and dedication on the part of the Armed Forces in that region, in order to meet the challenges and defend peace, reconciliation and unity among Angolans.

Born in Cazombo, municipality of Alto Zambeze, David Cavanda has already performed several functions in the Angolan Armed Forces, such as Chief of Staff of the Angolan Military Mission in Congo Brazzaville, Head of the Planning and Organization Division of the General Staff, coordinator and commander of the North Milita Region.

The Eastern Military Region comprises the provinces of Moxico, Lunda Sul and Lunda Norte.
