New Water System for Soyo with 180,000 Household Connections

Africa-Press – Angola. One hundred and eighty thousand household connections is the capacity of the new system for collecting, treating, and distributing drinking water under construction in the municipal capital of Soyo, Zaire province.

The announcement was made to the press on Saturday by the municipal administrator, José Mendes Belo, who stated that the first phase of the project, scheduled for completion in 2026, includes 90,000 household connections, with the remainder to be completed in 2027.

According to the official, the current water supply system is saturated, as it was designed to serve 60,000 inhabitants, a number far from the more than 300,000 residents currently living in the city of Soyo.The new infrastructure is being built on the Vuembanga River, on the outskirts of the city, by a Chinese company.

Highlighting the gains achieved in the region over the last 50 years of National Independence, José Mendes Belo also emphasized the structural investments in the oil and gas sector.

In this area, he referred to the Angola LNG plant, the development of the new non-associated gas consortium, as well as the future oil refinery, currently in the financing mobilization phase.

He also highlighted the construction of the fertilizer factory in the Kintambi neighborhood, on the outskirts of the city.

Regarding roads, he highlighted the rehabilitation of National Highway 100, which connects Soyo to Nzeto, as well as the paving of some city streets, within the framework of the Integrated Municipal Intervention Plan (PIIM).

Regarding the 50th anniversary of National Independence, which will be celebrated on November 11th, José Mendes Belo acknowledged the historical sacrifice of several generations of Angolans and appealed to the youth to preserve the legacy and progress achieved by the country.
