Africa-Press – Angola. The main figures who contributed to the enhancement of customs and cultural habits in the eastern region of the country, made up of the provinces of Moxico, Lunda Sul and Lunda Norte, may be honored in the next editions of the Regional Music and Dance Festival – Ngeya.

The information was passed on by the organisation’s Artistic coordinator, the musician Gabriel Tchiema, when he was taking stock of the festivity held in the city of Luena, Moxico province, on the 23rd and 24th of the current month.

In addition to living personalities and posthumously, he said that the tributes could be extended to folk groups that continue to preserve and disseminate the musical styles and typical dances of the three provinces of this region of Angola.

As for the holding of the first edition of the festival, he considers it positive for having rescued and shown the traditions of the region, with songs and cultural instruments that “resurrected” the traditions of the region, having called for the need to continue this type of events in communities.

The experienced musician and defender of local culture suggested the implementation of schools of traditional instruments in this region, to facilitate the learning of children in making and intonations, to perpetuate the culture.

Among the means that can be made in schools, he pointed out the Kalyalya and Cinguvu, percussion instruments that deserved homage in this edition, however that are in the process of extinction.

“The school will also serve as a way for children to receive the legacy of culture and rescue many artistic pieces, especially sound”, he maintained.

Gabriel Tchiema considered the presence of the musician Baló Januário as a way of translating the cultural dialogue towards Angolanity and the unification of peoples, considering that “from Cabinda to Cunene and from Lobito to Luau, we are one people and one nation”.

The Regional Music and Dance Festival – Ngeya was sponsored by Sociedade Mineira de Catoca, with the aim of rescuing intercultural dialogue, meeting generations and building legacies to promote the multiculturalism of these three provinces of Angola.

With no competitive purposes, Ngeya had the participation of 11 folk groups, totaling 126 artists.

After Lunda Norte, which organized the experimental phase in 2022, and Moxico the 1st edition, the province of Lunda Sul will be the stage for the next festival, scheduled for 2024.
