Africa-Press – Angola. The commander of the Northeast Military Region, José dos Santos, reiterated, this Monday, in Saurimo (Lunda-Sul), the commitment of the Angolan Armed Forces (FAA) in combating illegal immigration and smuggling.

When speaking at the opening of the Year of Operational, Combative and Educational-Patriotic Preparation 2024-2025, the general officer said that the FAA will reinforce policing, especially in border areas, in collaboration with other defense and security forces.

Likewise, he said, the corporation will work on locating minefields, with a view to guaranteeing the free movement of people and goods.

“We will also support the Government in tasks related to the population census and contribute to the eradication of illiteracy levels among staff, to meet the expectations emanated from above”, he highlighted.

On the other hand, José dos Santos made it known that the opening of the year of combative training aims to equip the personnel with new methods of action, so that they are better prepared to defend and secure the country’s soil.

He urged personnel to use social media responsibly, avoid excessive consumption of alcoholic beverages and other acts that tarnish the good name of the Army.

Members of the local government, the FAA Advisory Council, the National Police, among other guests, participated in the event.

The Northeast Military Region comprises the provinces of Lunda-Sul and Lunda-Norte.
