The national election observers, integrated in the Association “Projecto Eu Acredita”, congratulated, yesterday, in the presentation of the follow-up report to the General Elections of 24 August, the Angolan people for the orderly way in which they exercised their right to vote, emphasizing the transparency, speed and modernity of the electoral process.
The Association “Project I Believe” recognizes that the National Electoral Commission (CNE) fulfilled its mission of organizing the process, stating that the General Elections were free, peaceful and took place in accordance with the objectives of the Constitution of the Democratic State and of Law.
“The use of state-of-the-art technologies, both in the National Scrutiny Center and in other places enabled for the process and information on the elements to be checked, contributed positively to the organization of the vote”, underlines the mission of the national observers.
It was also noted that no incidents were recorded that affected the normal functioning of the polling stations. The Association “Projecto Eu Acredita” also found that the assemblies opened and closed at the appointed time, and that all polling stations were provided by electoral agents identified and recognized by the National Elections Commission (CNE).
The Civil Society Observer Mission to the August 24 General Elections considers that the CNE demonstrated an above-average level of organization, observing the legal principles and secrecy of the voting act, in all polling stations visited.
The mission members also state that no case of “coercion by the exercise of the vote” has been recorded.
The coordinator of the Association “I Believe Project”, João Lusevi Kueno, who presented the declaration on the exercise of electoral observation, addressing the actors in the process, namely the political parties, encouraged them to accept the results of the elections.
Thus, he suggested to competing political forces to congratulate each other and encouraged Angolans to remain calm, tolerant and peaceful. “The Association “Projecto Eu Acredita” congratulates all Angolans, competing political parties and all other electoral agents for the way we peacefully carry out and participate in these elections of August 24, 2022″, reads the final statement of the Civil Society Observer Mission.
He recommended the promotion of continuous dialogue with all competing political actors, in order to generate greater confidence in the process and cement credibility in the preparatory acts, intensifying electoral civic education campaigns, which political parties should reinforce in the training of presidents, secretaries and polling station tellers.
Police Security At Polling Stations
National observers also noted that the police authorities ensured that polling stations were secured before, during and after the voting process and that a considerable part of the stations observed were not fully filled by the list delegates.
“For this reason, the Mission of National Observers congratulates the CNE, as an entity engaged in the preparation and holding of elections in Angola, in a context of peace and tranquility. the population to remain cautious and confident in the face of the provisional results that are being released by the National Electoral Commission”.
National observers recommend that the CNE develop annual civic and electoral education programs among the Angolan population, and that political parties competing in elections in Angola should favor a discourse that promotes the culture of Peace and National Unity, regardless of electoral purposes.
