Oil companies in the country want consortium to increase butane gas production

Africa-Press – Angola. A new consortium between US oil company Totalenergies EP and the others operating in Angola to ensure greater production of butane gas, in the context of the current global demand for the product, should soon be launched in the country.

The information was released this Monday (18), in Luanda, to the press, by the director general of Totalenergies in Angola, Olivier Jouny, at the end of the meeting he had with the deputies of the 5th Economy and Finance Committee of the National Assembly.

“We are working with other oil companies operating in Angola, to launch a new consortium, which will allow to take more gas to the LNG factory, based in the oil village of Soyo”, said Olivier Jouny.

The managing director of Totalenergies announced, in effect, the recovery of Blocks 20 and 21 in the Cuanza Basin, as well as Block 29, in the Namibe Bay, in an attempt to find oil and gas. He indicated that frontier surveys are continuing in new basins, including Blocks 17 and 32.

Olivier Jouny spoke to the deputies about the main projects in progress and in the pipeline, in addition to issues related to the levels of crude oil production in the different blocks where he operates.

The meeting between deputies and the management of the oil company Totalenergies took place within the scope of public consultations carried out by Parliament to major contributors to the national economy.

To the deputies, the director general of Totalenergies informed that the company will expand the portfolio of projects in Blocks 17 and 32, in the field of renewable energies. In this regard, he referred to the company’s project to increasingly expand the installation of fuel pumps throughout the country.

He also spoke of the solar project underway with the partnership of Angolan oil company Sonangol, to benefit from the supply of electricity to the populations of the provinces of Huambo and Huíla. In the latter region, he said, the solar project will produce 40 Megawatts.

Olivier Jouny reassured the deputies by promising that the company, within the framework of its activity in the country, intends to reduce the impact on greenhouse gas emissions. “We will do everything to operate differently in Angola, safeguarding the environment, within the framework of the Paris Agreement, recently signed by Angola”, he reinforced.

The director general of Totalenergies, despite recognizing the potential of biofuels in the country, said that the company will seek to expand and diversify the sources to obtain “clean energy”.

He underlined that Totalenergies, which holds 45 percent of national oil production, will also continue with investments to provide more jobs, especially for young people.

The president of the 5th Commission valued the meeting, stressing that the information obtained will make it possible to further enrich the reports referring to the next budgets.

Ruth Mendes said that the 5th Commission will, in the near future, meet with officials from other oil companies operating in the country, to also collect detailed information on production levels, projects and investments in the short, medium and long terms.

From the oil company, Ruth Mendes said that she has received information about the legal framework to be created for the implementation of carbon credit projects, similar to what the company is already carrying out in Congo.

Meeting With Young People

Just yesterday, the group of women parliamentarians met with dozens of young people from different associations, to which they explained the functioning of the National Assembly, within the framework of multiparty democracy.

Jair Pereira, from the Angolan Youth Institute, said that the meeting took place within the scope of the need to “extinguish from among some young people misinformation about the functioning of public institutions”.

“With these actions, we want to bring young people together with institutions, to know about their real functioning and what they represent for the country”, said Jair Pereira, stressing that young people must be encouraged, in order to rescue moral and civic values, with a view to maintaining the spirit of peace during the electoral period.

As part of the project “More citizenship, more Angola”, he said that the next visits will be carried out at the General Staff of the Angolan Armed Forces (EMG-FAA), Attorney General’s Office (PGR), National Electoral Commission (CNE) and at the Presidential.
