Africa-Press – Angola. The provincial secretary of OMA in Huíla, Maria Teresa Navita Francisco, urged municipal secretariats to continue building basic centers for the literacy process, in order to reduce the rate of illiteracy among activists and families.

OMA in Huíla operates in three literacy programs, namely “Deolinda Rodrigues”, “Sim eu Podemos” and “Ensino de Jovens e Adultos (EJA)”, which have helped the teaching and learning process.

The leader who was speaking on Wednesday, at the provincial event marking the organization’s anniversary, in the municipality of Quipungo, stated that municipal management should encourage literacy teachers to continue working, as well as enrolled students to attend classes regularly.

He declared that the OMA has responsibilities focused on the social area, to resolve the problems that plague Angolan families, as well as combating illiteracy, hunger and poverty, domestic violence within families, early pregnancy and sexual abuse.

For the leader, domestic violence within families and the sexual abuse of minors continue to have a negative impact on the lives of victims, which is why OMA will continue to work with civil society to raise awareness among communities, with a view to intensifying complaints.

He highlighted that the growth of the OMA is continuous, in the awareness and mobilization of women, especially young women, for their entry into the organization and the party, in order to equip them with knowledge and ideological training, party ethics, preservation of public goods, among other mechanisms to adequately respond to the challenges of the OMA and the party.

This commitment, according to Maria Francisco, aims to increasingly reach OMA in the various sectors of society, guaranteeing a more attractive, representative, solid, strong, inclusive organization, not only of zungueira, but also supporting rural women who contribute significantly to the diversification of the economy.

The day on January 10th takes place under the motto “Angolan woman, committed to the country’s socioeconomic development”.

The OMA in Huíla controls 368 thousand 778 members, distributed across seven thousand 533 base sessions. This female branch of the MPLA was founded on January 10, 1962, in Leopoldville, now the Democratic Republic of Congo, with the current mission of mobilizing, organizing and educating Angolan women in the political circumstances of the time.

The organization maintains its status as a women’s organization that “best interprets” and carries out the mission of defending the interests and concerns of Angolan women.
