Africa-Press – Angola. The deputy governor for the Political, Economic and Social Sector, Franco Mufinda, defended (Friday) the contribution of the Ombudsman’s Office in protecting citizens’ rights, with particular emphasis on vulnerable and unprotected people.
Speaking at the opening of the ombudsman’s week, which aims to mark the 19th anniversary of the Ombudsman’s Office, the person in charge considered the creation of this sector in Angola to be an added value, as it promotes transparency, justice and human rights.
He highlighted that in situations of complaints of maladministration, injustice or violation of rights, it is the provider’s responsibility to investigate, as well as seek fair and impartial solutions to resolve the problems.
He appealed to the ombudsman to always prioritize the principles of legality and justice, in accordance with the Constitution of the Republic of Angola.
In turn, the head of the provincial services of the Ombudsman’s Office, Manuel Campo, said that the institution has contributed satisfactorily to the defense of citizens’ rights, freedom and guarantees.
When delivering a lecture on “The Rights of People with Disabilities in the Social Context and Labor Reinsertion”, jurist Jósias Quimas pointed out that people with disabilities have the right to work of their own free choice, accessibility and inclusion on equal terms with those other citizens.
One thousand 350 citizens with disabilities are monitored by the Provincial Social Action Office in Malanje.
During the first quarter of this year, 45 complaints related to excessive preventive detention, expired sentences, procedural delays, labor conflicts, denial of justice, among others, were received by the Ombudsman’s Office in Malanje.
The week, which takes place under the motto “The Ombudsman, as Mediator of Conflicts between Citizens and the Public Administration”, also has lectures.
The Ombudsman’s Office is an independent body of the State, whose mission is to defend the fundamental rights of citizens.
