Ombudsman Marks 20 Years of Existence

Africa-Press – Angola. The Ombudsman, Florbela Araújo, stated on Saturday, in Luanda, that the institution’s 20 years of existence represent more than a simple chronological mark, they symbolize two decades of uninterrupted commitment to defending citizens’ rights, promoting justice and strengthening the Democratic and Legal State in Angola.

Forbela Araújo, who was speaking during the celebration of the institution’s 20th anniversary, celebrated yesterday, highlighted that the Ombudsman’s Office has asserted itself through its independence, integrity and institutional courage.

She added that the Ombudsman’s Office has become a bridge between citizens and the Public Administration, giving voice to the complaints, concerns and anxieties of those seeking justice and equity.

The president of the Association of African Ombudsmen and Mediators (AOMA) also stressed that the role of the institution goes far beyond resolving administrative conflicts, assuming a mission of proximity, humanity and active listening, especially in a context in which trust in institutions is essential for good governance.The Ombudsman praised the work of all those who contributed to the consolidation of the institution, from the leadership of Paulo Tjipilica, through Carlos Alberto Ferreira Pinto, to the current board.

According to Florbela Araújo, the Ombudsman’s interventions have been guided by legality and ethics, promoting citizenship, protecting the most vulnerable and encouraging responsibility in public bodies.

“It is with great honour and deep respect that we celebrate this milestone in the history of the country’s Ombudsman”, highlighted Florbela Araújo.
