Africa-Press – Angola. Seven thousand complaints related to land conflicts, procedural delays in the courts and crime were registered in the country in 2023, by the Ombudsman’s Office.

The information was provided to the press, this Monday, in Luanda, by the Ombudsman, Florbela Araújo, during a lecture included in the Ombudsman’s Week, which had the motto “The Ombudsman in Angolan legislation”.

On the occasion, he pointed out the arbitrariness of some bodies and the issue of pensioners as some of the most registered cases.

Regarding the number of land conflicts, he said that in 2023 there were more than 500 complaints, while in the first quarter of 2024 registrations rose to more than a thousand.

According to Florbela Rocha Araújo, the provinces of Malanje, Cuanza-Sul, Cunene and Cuando Cubango top the list.

He said that to avoid an increase in cases involving land, commissions are being created to mediate conflicts amicably or at court level.

As for the prospects for 2024, he indicated the expansion of the provider service to all provinces and greater awareness of some central and local State administration bodies to respond to people’s complaints.

The lecture was part of the closing ceremony of Ombudsman Week, which took place from the 19th to the 29th of this month, under the motto “The Ombudsman in Angolan legislation”.

The Ombudsman’s Office is an independent body of the State, whose mission is to defend the fundamental rights of citizens.
