Africa-Press – Angola. The ombudsman, Florbela Araújo, requested, this Thursday, in Luanda, the media, greater dissemination of the acts of ombudsmen as a way to better inform and educate citizens about their rights, freedoms and guarantees.
The appeal made during a working visit to the Ministry of Telecommunications, Information Technologies and Social Communication (MTTICS), where he referred that one of the objectives of the meeting with Minister Mário Augusto was to ask for greater disclosure of the role and function of the ombudsman , whose object is the defense of citizens.
For Florbela Araújo, it is necessary for the media to take into account the issue of the citizen, the problems of society and its conduct, facts that often lead to the violation of fundamental rights.
In this context, he appealed for even more publicity for the actions of the Ombudsman’s Office, through radio, television channels and newspapers, since these means have enormous information power in society.
“Communication is the fundamental link in the modern era and information technology”, he considered.
Florbela Araújo also made clear the need for support at a technological level, since the current moment demands a quality and efficient service.
For the Minister of Telecommunications Information Technologies and Social Communication, Mário Augusto, there is work to be done in the media, as well as with regard to the technological equipping of the ombudsman, as a way of helping to develop its activities for which is called.
Therefore, the official who is soon to introduce the “Citizen’s Minute” into the program schedule of the media, in order to publicize their rights and duties.
“It is important that, with the means at our disposal, we can bring the provider closer to the citizen or the provider to the citizen”, he said.
The minister also advanced that the reduction of party-political space in the media is in the portfolio, since it has its own time.
In this case, says the official, there will be a greater approximation to spaces of academic and social approaches and the rescue of civic and moral values.
