Africa-Press – Angola. The Ombudsman, Florbela Araújo, considered a “clear violation” of a fundamental right, the exercise of targeted communication surveillance, practiced by any State body and private entities outside the limits of the law and international norms.

The consideration was made, this Friday, by the Ombudsman Florbela Araújo during the intervention on the second day of the Regional Seminar on Freedom of Expression and Access to Information for Lusophone Africa, says a note from the institution.

At the event, which takes place in Johannesburg, South Africa, Florbela Araújo highlighted Principle 41 of the Declaration of Principles on Freedom of Expression and Access to Information in Africa, which establishes the surveillance of privacy and communication.

In her speech, as president of the Network of Ombudsmen of Justice and National Institutions of Human Rights, Florbela Araújo challenged the Ombudsmen of Lusophony and the presidents of the Human Rights Commissions to intervene in the defense of the private life rights of citizens and in the violation of the freedom of expression.

In addition to the Angolan Ombudsman, the event, which ended yesterday, was attended by several institutions in the field of human rights in Africa, from Cape Verde, Mozambique, Guinea-Bissau, São Tomé, state institutions, NGOs and different bar associations .
