Africa-Press – Angola. A center specializing in the identification and treatment of various complex diseases, built on the premises of the General Hospital of Benguela, began operating on Tuesday.

The development, with modern equipment, cost US$2.5 million, and has 72 beds for inpatient treatment, divided into two distinct areas: one with 48 beds and the other with 24.

With more than 50 specialized technicians distributed in shifts (morning, afternoon and night), the hospital can serve more than 100 patients a day.

The center serves patients with neurosurgery, otolaryngology, ophthalmology, gastrointestinal problems, multiple sclerosis, kidney and cardiovascular diseases, various types of tumors and Covid-19.

According to the director of the Provincial Health Office, António Cabinda, the entry into operation of this unit will reduce “the multiplicity of cases of dubious diseases” and reduce the sending of patients to Luanda.

In-service professionals are also professors from different clinical areas. They will also carry out educational activities with patients, giving them basic notions on the preservation of personal health.

The start-up of the project was witnessed by the provincial governor of Benguela, Luís Nunes, and several members of the local government.

The province of Benguela will have, in the near future, another hospital for the treatment of patients with tuberculosis, as part of a public-private partnership between the government of Benguela and the company Guanda Pesca, said António Cabinda.

The health unit, he said, will be built in a properly urbanized space, with an execution period of three months. It will have the capacity to care for about 200 patients a day, and hospitalize more than 50 patients in a critical condition of the disease.
