Organization regrets absence of Cabinda

Africa-Press – Angola. The race director of the 3rd edition of the Torneio das Marcas, in nautical disciplines, Mateus Afonso “Tó”, regretted the fact that the race could not count on the participation of two athletes from the province of Cabinda.

At issue is the fact that the Port of Cabinda did not guarantee the presence of representatives of the northernmost province of the country in the competition to be held on the 2nd and 3rd of April, on the coast of Ilha do Cabo, in Luanda, organized by the Luanda Island Nautical Club (CNIL).

“We are counting on the sponsorship of the Port of Cabinda. Unfortunately, there was a change in the administration, the previous chairman of the Board of Directors was replaced by another. It would be the first time that we would have athletes who were not from Luanda”, lamented Mateus Afonso.

The initial idea is to transform the Torneio das Marcas into a competition of a national nature and later serve as a test balloon to expand to other countries on the continent, and thus raise the competitive level and make the event more media.

However, that official is confident that the next edition will be able to count on athletes coming from other parts of the Angolan coast. In addition to the organizing club, athletes from Clube Naval, 1º de Agosto are registered and are awaiting confirmation from Petro de Luanda.

The competition will take place in the immediate vicinity of the Marítimo da Ilha club. According to the organization, the central area of Ilha do Cabo was chosen as a strategic point, in order to give greater visibility to all the brands that decided to join the tournament.

“We will have several vessels at sea, and a beach full of colorful umbrellas, flags, tents and all kinds of advertising material for the respective brands”.

The competition has a different competition model from the others. The 150 athletes from the sailing, canoeing and indoor rowing modalities registered by the clubs will represent each of the participating brands.

A journalistic coverage plan was also prepared, involving the most different state and private media.

Among the most rated sailors, Matias Montinho and Paixão Afonso, African champions who represented Angola at the Rio’2016 and Tokyo’2020 Olympic Games, in addition to Ronâncio Paulo (current African champion of the Optimist class), and Benilson Sanda silver medal and bronze at the Pan-African Games in Morocco in 2019.

So far Saudabel, Rukka Kayaks, Estúdios HN, Padaria Sardinho, Shot-Ice, Withebest Burguers, Zoom Óptica, Bar dos Sócios and Laércio Cândido, Revista de Imprensa and Axilwanda, are the brands associated with the third edition of the nautical event.

The Brands Tournament was created in 2018 with the purpose of honoring and encouraging companies that support the clubs’ social projects.

To balance the teams, as in previous editions of the competition, a draw will be held on the 1st of April where the best athletes of the modalities and classes will occupy the heads of the list. Yesterday the technical meeting took place, where several aspects inherent to the organization were discussed.
