Africa-Press – Angola. Over 60,000 people residing in the province of Zaire have already benefited from projects financed by the European Union (EU) since 2009, the supervisor of the NGO Action for the Promotion of Development of the Hoji-ya-Henda Commune (APDCH), Mengi Preto Valor Júnior, said Monday in Mbanza Kongo.

The official who was speaking to the journalists said that the support from the European Union, whose program in this region of the country is operationalized by the non-governmental organization APDCH, has covered the areas of human rights, financial sustainability, institutional strengthening and youth empowerment.

He added that the project “Our voice, our future” is currently underway, which consists of promoting the active empowerment of young people residing in some municipalities of the province of Zaire.

“In addition to bringing food to populations in situations of social vulnerability, this funding from the European Union has also helped in the development of the communities themselves in various fields,” expressed the provincial supervisor of APDCH in Zaire.

The official said he hopes that the 7th African Union (AU) – European Union (EU) Summit, which is taking place until Tuesday in the Angolan capital, Luanda, will produce satisfactory results for strengthening cooperation and financing for African countries.

With the motto “Promoting peace and prosperity through effective multilateralism,” the event is being co-chaired by the current President of the African Union, João Lourenço, and the President of the European Council, António Costa.

The Summit, which also aims to strengthen the 25 years of cooperation between the two blocs, coincides with the 50th anniversary of Angola’s Independence, celebrated on the 11th of this month, and with Angola’s rotating presidency of the African Union.
