Africa-Press – Angola. The National Assembly Speaker, Carolina Cerqueira, arrived in Havana, Cuba, on Thursday (11) for an official 72-hour visit, at the invitation of her Cuban counterpart, Esteban Lazo Hernández, as part of the strengthening of parliamentary cooperation.

Accompanied by a delegation comprising deputies Manuel Dembo, Carla de Sousa, Helena Marciano, Alcides Sakala, Benedito Daniel, and the Secretary-General of the National Assembly, Pedro Agostinho de Neri, Carolina Cerqueira received welcome remarks from the President of the International Relations Committee of the National Assembly of Cuba, Alberto Eduardo Betancourt, and the Angolan Ambassador to Cuba, Carlos Cruz Sardinha.

On the occasion, the Angolan MP emphasized the importance of this visit, which aims to consolidate the historic friendship between the two brother countries and promote deeper dialogue in the parliamentary sphere.

She recalled that the relationship between Angola and Cuba has been fruitful and strategic for several decades.

Carolina Cerqueira also highlighted the growing presence of women in politics in Angola, mainly in the legislative branch, with a representation of approximately 41.81%. Meanwhile, Cuba has over 56% women in parliament, making it the 2nd country in the world with the highest female representation.
