Africa-Press – Angola. The political parties defended, Thursday (3), in Luanda, greater coverage of the One-Stop Public Service Desks (BUAP) in the update of the Official Electoral Register that ends on the 31st of this month.
The process, which started on September 23, 2021, has so far 596 branches spread across the country and still face difficulties in accessing some areas.
According to the National Director of the Official Electoral Registry of the Ministry of Territory Administration (MAT), who was speaking at the end of the meeting with representatives of political parties with parliamentary seats, chaired by Minister Marcy Lopes, he stressed that the provinces with the greatest difficulty are Uíge , Malanje, Moxico and Cuando Cubango.
Fernando Paixão clarified that the MAT, in partnership with the Ministry of National Defense and Veterans of the Homeland, is doing everything possible so that by next week it will reach areas of difficult access to update the population.
“There is an area that we have not yet reached and that we do not have coverage of Identity Cards. There is a need to update the electoral register”, he underlined, referring that the meeting also served to inform political parties about the progress of the process and with them to gather suggestions.
“We hope that political parties exert sufficient influence over citizens with the capacity to elect and be elected in the next election, for effective adherence to the register”, he indicated.
On the occasion, the representative of the PRS, Rui Malopa, stressed that his party is concerned with the populations that have not yet managed to update the register due to lack of means in the areas of residence.
For his part, UNITA’s secretary for Electoral Affairs, Faustino Mabuca, said that the party has inspection teams at the country’s 569 branches. Likewise, the representative of CASA-CE, Elias Keta, stressed that the coalition also has members accredited in all BUAPs and that they are prepared with areas of difficult access that have not yet been updated.
