The MPLA Provincial Committee in Cabinda will elect Mara Quiosa, the party’s first secretary, to replace Marcos Alexandre Nhunga, who will occupy the same position in Malanje, the secretary for Information and Propaganda said yesterday.
According to Odete da Cruz, who was speaking to the press to announce the holding of the eighth extraordinary conference of the “comrades” party, the conclave will take place in the sports pavilion of Mbaka, south of the city of Cabinda, and will have as a single point on the work “the election of the first secretary Mara Quiosa”.
He underlined that the election process of the party’s first provincial secretary will have a candidacy, that of the militant Mara Quiosa, although, as he reinforced, the statutes allow that “all militants can run for the position, as long as they meet the required requirements” .
He added that the process will be governed by the principles of internal party democracy, which is the vote of the majority of delegates present at the conclave. “The election of the first secretary must be legitimized by 50 percent of the delegates present in the room and one more,” she explained.
Odete da Cruz also assured that the 8th extraordinary provincial conference will be attended by the president of the MPLA Parliamentary Group and coordinator of the Monitoring Group of the Secretariat of the Political Bureau for the province of Cabinda, Virgílio de Fontes Pereira, and the first -outgoing secretary, Marcos Alexandre Nhunga.
The 890 delegates, who in 2021 participated in the twelfth ordinary provincial conference of the party, from the four municipalities (Cabinda, Cacongo, Buco-Zau and Belize), will also be present, announced Odete da Cruz.
